Pittsburgh Among Top Cities For Easter Celebrations, Study Finds

PITTSBURGH, PA - Easter Sunday marks the end of Lent and the Christian celebration of Christ’s resurrection. It’s also a time for people to dye eggs and hide baskets around the home for the kids to hunt.

And there are few better places in America to celebrate the holiday, according to a new study.

Financial analytics website WalletHub released a report rating the nation’s premier places to observe Easter, and Pittsburgh was ranked fourth - behind only New York, St. Louis and Chicago.

The finding were based on a WalletHub analysis of the 100 largest cities across a dozen metrics that ranged from Easter egg hunts per capita to the Easter weather forecast.

  • Easter observers: 3rd
  • Percent of Christian population: 4th
  • Churches per capita: 8th
  • Candy and chocolate stores per capita: 8th
  • Easter traditions: 15th
  • Brunch restaurants per capita: 23rd
  • Kids Easter: 48th
  • Easter Weather: 59

Rounding out the top 10 rankings are Los Angeles, Birmingham, Atlanta, Houston, Cincinnati and Orlando.
Other interesting WalletHub unearthed in its Easter analysis:

  • Total Easter-related spending expected in 2018: $18.2 billion.
  • Projected Easter spending on candy: $2.6 billion:
  • Price of the world’s most expensive chocolate Easter bunny: $49,000.
  • Share of people who eat chocolate bunnies ears first: 59 percent.
