Pittsburgh-Area Coronavirus-Related School Closings Increase
Mounting coronavirus concerns have closed entire school districts around Pittsburgh.
PITTSBURGH, PA - The number of coronavirus-related school closings around the Pittsburgh area grew Friday after just two schools were closed Thursday. Here's the latest information:
- Pittsburgh Public Schools: Colfax K-8 is closed again Friday so the district can continue the deep cleaning that began Thursday to counter possible coronavirus presence. Brookline K-8 is closed because a student's relative might have been exposed to the coronavirus. Both schools are expected to reopen on Monday. The district has postponed all city arts activities and upcoming musicals until further notice.
- Fox Chapel Area School District: The district canceled classes "out of an abundance of caution," according to the district's Facebook page. The decision was made Thursday after the district was alerted that the parent of a Fox Chapel Area High School student is ill and concerned about potential exposure to coronavirus. While the parent has not traveled to any areas known to have the virus, the district said it is canceling classes "in a proactive effort to safeguard the health and safety of our entire educational community."
