Pittsburgh-Area Fall Foliage: Here's When Can Peak Colors Be Expected

One Southwestern Pennsylvania county already is experiencing its best colors, according to state officials.

PITTSBURGH, PA —Leaves on the trees have begun to change colors in Pittsburgh and Southwestern Pennsylvania, but it likely will another two to three weeks before they are at their peak.

That's according to the state Department of Conservation and Naturalization's latest fall foliage report for Pennsylvania. The department issues them weekly every autumn.

The closest area where fall colors are at their best is the Laurel Highlands in Westmoreland County. The department advises taking a hike in Keystone State Park to view them. In Somerset County, the leaves are approaching their peak colors.

The only areas in the state where the leaves are at their best color now is a half-dozen northernmost counties.
