Pittsburgh-Area Instructor Charged With Student-Related Sex Offenses

PITTSBURGH, PA — For the second time in less than a week, an instructor in the same Pittsburgh-area school district has been charged with having inappropriate contact with a student.

Pennsylvania State Police announced on Tuesday that Laurel Highlands High School JROTC instructor Daniel Cervone was taken into custody. The arrest occurred after police Monday learned of allegations of sexual activity between Cervone and a student.

Cervone has been charged with institutional sexual assault, corruption of minors and unlawful contact with a minor. According to the Fayette County District Attorney's Office, said he had sexual contact with a former student when she was 15-16 years old.

Cervone is being held on $20,000 bond at the Fayette County Jail.

The investigation remains active, and anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the state police Uniontown Barracks, at 724-439-7111.

Last week, Martin Gatti, 50, a Laurel Highlands High School teacher and onetime Uniontown City Council member, also was charged with attempted institutional sexual assault, unlawful conduct with a minor and corruption of minors.

He has been placed on administrative leave.
