Pittsburgh-Area Parents Charged In Child's Death

The parents of a young child in the Pittsburgh area are facing charges in connection with his death. Get the details here.

PITTSBURGH, PA — Police have charged two people in connection with the death of their 3-year-old child on Wednesday.

At 12:43 p.m., Allegheny County 911 was notified of a child not breathing in the 300 block of Dorothy Drive in Penn Hills. The child was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The hospital’s initial examination revealed the boy showed obvious signs of physical abuse, including multiple healing and active bone fractures.

According to county police, through witness interviews it was determined the child’s mother, Lagomau Malu, 23, physically abused the child on multiple occasions.

Malu is facing multiple charges, including aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of children. She was taken to the Allegheny County Jail pending arraignment.

On Thursday, police also noted that the child's father, Adam Chirico, 22, has been charged with endangering the welfare of children and recklessly endangering another person.

The investigation is ongoing pending the determination of cause and manner of death from the county medical examiner’s office.
