Pittsburgh-Area Police K9 Dies Suddenly
K9 Officer Eli appeared at a local school just before his death, police said.
ELIZABETH TOWNSHIP, PA — Elizabeth Township K9 officer Eli passed away suddenly Wednesday following a demonstration at an area elementary school.
The Elizabeth police department announced the dog's death on social media.
"K9 Eli started police service with Elizabeth Township Police Department in 2016 and has had hundreds of apprehensions and seizures since that time," a Facebook post stated. "In that same time, he has touched thousands of hearts.

"Eli and handler Officer Dan Novacek served our community and surrounding communities proudly and our hearts are heavy."
The dog, who life was dedicated to public service and community outreach, was escorted from Valley Vetenarian Hospital to Gilbert’s Funeral Home in Boston, PA.
