Pittsburgh-Area Restaurant Files For Bankruptcy

BRENTWOOD, PA — The Crack'd Egg restaurant, which filed a federal lawsuit last month challenging state and county coronavirus regulations, has filed for bankruptcy. The move comes after the restaurant was ordered to close for seven days last month for violating state mandates.

The Crack’d Egg on Brownsville Road filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The restaurant remains open during the bankruptcy proceedings.

Restaurant owner Kimberly Waigand, told KDKA-TV that she still not requiring employees or patrons to wear masks.

The basis of the restaurant's lawsuit is the ruling by a federal judge last month that Gov. Tom Wolf's coronavirus restrictions, which include limiting seating capacity at restaurants, are unconstitutional.

Inspectors in August found four employees who serve food not wearing a facial mask. The eatery's owner was observed not wearing a facial covering. Inspectors saw one patron enter the restaurant without a mask or facial covering and seat himself.
