Pittsburgh Area At Risk Of Severe Storms, Flooding, Tornadoes

PITTSBURGH, PA — After Saturday's outbreak of storms resulted in two tornadoes, downed trees and numerous power outages in Western Pennsylvania, another round of severe weather is likely for the region today.

The National Weather Service a new disturbance is likely to impact Pittsburgh and surrounding areas. There is a risk of storms producing damaging winds, hail and tornadoes occurring between 12 p.m. and 8 p.m.

The threat for severe weather occurring is at Level 3, which the weather service says usually only occurs in Western Pennsylvania once or twice a year.

Additionally, a flood watch is in effect for Pittsburgh and the rest of Allegheny County, along with Fayette, Greene, Washington and Westmoreland counties.

The flood watch is in effect from 1 p.m.-11 p.m.

The weather service says there is the potential for areas to see swaths of heavy rain due to trailing thunderstorms. Rainfall rates in some area could be as much as three to five inches per hour.

Better weather is expected on Wednesday with mostly sunny skies and high temperatures expected to be in the mid-70s.
