Pittsburgh-Area Student Collapses At Basketball Practice, Dies
A middle school student is dead after collapsing after school on Wednesday.
BRIDGEVILLE, PA — A 7th-grade Chartiers Valley Middle School student collapsed and died at basketball practice on Wednesday.
The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office identified the student as Jayson Kidd, 12. He collapsed during warm-ups and died shortly before 5:30 p.m. at an area hospital.
Chartiers Valley School District Superintendent Johannah Vanatta addressed the incident in a message posted on the district's website Wednesday evening.

"Today, the Chartiers Valley family is deeply saddened by a tragic incident that occurred at the middle school this evening around 5 p.m. pm. Out of respect for the family, we will not release any further details at this time," Vanatta wrote.
"I am confident that our community will rise in support. My thoughts and prayers are with the student’s family, friends, teammates, coaches, teachers, and all of those affected by this tragedy."
