PITTSBURGH, PA — It's the end of an era at the Waterworks Mall on the Pittsburgh-Aspinwall border. Walmart, which took over an old Ames location when that retail chain went under in 2002, confirmed Monday its Waterworks location will close by Veterans Day.

Underperforming sales were cited as the reason.

The big-box retailer this spring closed locations in Louisville, KY; Forest Park, OH; Bellevue, WA; Guilford, CT and Mayfield Heights OH. Financial underperformance was cited as the reason for those closings as well.

It's not immediately clear what, if anything, will fill the 80,000-square-foot void at the Waterworks.

Walmart's other locations are in North Fayette, West Mifflin, Gibsonia, Frazer and North Versailles.
