Pittsburgh Boil Water Advisory In Effect For Thousands

The Pittsburgh Water & Sewer Authority has issued a boil water advisory in numerous Pittsburgh neighborhoods after a Sunday power outage.

PITTSBURGH, PA — The Pittsburgh Water & Sewer Authority has issued a boil water advisory for numerous city neighborhoods after a power outage at one of its pump stations on Sunday.

The outage caused low and no water pressures in portions of those neighborhoods. Although the outage is over, a water pressure loss can cause contaminants to enter the drinking water.

The boil water advisory applies to more than 6,000 homes in the following neighborhoods:

  • Bloomfield
  • East Liberty
  • Friendship
  • Garfield
  • Highland Park
  • Homewood North
  • Morningside
  • North Point Breeze
  • Point Breeze
  • Shadyside
  • South Oakland
  • Swisshelm Park

Water buffaloes have been placed at the following locations for affected customers:

  • Bloomfield: 477 S. Atlantic Avenue.
  • Highland Park: N. Negley Avenue at Bryant Street.
  • Morningside: Morningside Avenue at Duffield Street.
  • North Point Breeze: N. Lang Avenue at Park Lane Drive.
  • Shadyside: Howe Street at College Street.
  • South Oakland: Dawson Street at Holmes Place.
  • Swisshelm Park: Onondago Street, near Swisshelm Playground.

The authority will conduct testing to confirm adequate disinfectant levels and verify that the water is safe to consume.
