Pittsburgh Carjacking Arrests: Weapons, Ammunition, Drugs Seized

PITTSBURGH, PA — Three people were arrested in connection with a weekend carjacking incident in which multiple weapons, ammunition and drugs were confiscated.
Pittsburgh police on Monday identified those arrested as Darius Balthrop, 18, and two juveniles. Balthrop is charged with robbery of a motor vehicle, robbery, carrying a firearm without a license, terroristic threats and multiple counts of possession. The juveniles were turned over to juvenile probation.
After obtaining a search warrant for the stolen vehicle because firearms were in plain sight inside, police recovered three handguns, an AR style pistol, ammunition, magazines, marijuana, crack cocaine and multiple cell phones.

The carjacking occurred Saturday night at Crawford Street and Centre Avenue in the Hill District; the driver was unhurt.
Within 30 minutes of the initial police call, multiple units pulled over the vehicle on East Carson Street between 23rd and 24th streets in the city's South Side. The three were arrested and positively identified by the victim, police said.
