Pittsburgh Carjacking Spree Targeted Seniors

Police arrested five teens in connection with several carjackings at Bakery Square and in Point Breeze.

PITTSBURGH, PA - Pittsburgh police officers have arrested several juveniles who allegedly were involved in several carjackings at Bakery Square and Point Breeze this week.

On Tuesday afternoon, a 66-year-old man was assaulted and removed from his 2015 Subaru Forrester in the 7300 block of Reynold Street in Point Breeze. Officers responding to the incident asked construction and road crews in the area to keep an eye out for the vehicle, and a few hours later a construction worker spotted the Forrester and flagged down officers.

Officers caught up to the vehicle on Monticello Street near Brushton Avenue in Homewood and arrested four males and a female who fled from the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle, a 14-year-old youth, was also charged with carjacking a vehicle Monday from a 75-year-old man in the 500 block of South Murtland Avenue in Point Breeze. The teen also is charged with the carjacking of a vehicle from a 70-year-old women on Monday in the Bakery Square parking garage.

High-quality images taken at Bakery Square show the youth, according to law enforcement officials. Police found the shirt th suspect was wearing in the Bakery Square carjacking inside the Forrester.

A person in Frick Park photographed the teen and others just before the Forrester was carjacked. The 14-year-old was wearing the same shirt in those photos as he was during the Bakery Square carjacking.

The 14-year-old was taken to Shuman Juvenile Detention Center.
