Pittsburgh Child COVID-19 Vaccinations: Here's Where To Get Them

The vaccine rollout has begun locally for children between the ages of 5 through 11. Here are some of the places offering inoculations.

PITTSBURGH, PA — Just like it was with adults, the rollout of the COVID-19 vaccination for children ages 5-11 could prove frustrating at first. Availability will be limited and appointments scarce initially.

Nevertheless, Pittsburgh's largest medical providers, drug store chains and grocers, will begin offering the vaccine this weekend after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention made 28 million kids in that age group eligible on Tuesday. Minors ages 12 and older already were eligible.

The following places are your best bets to schedule 5-11 appointments in Pittsburgh and Allegheny County:

  • UPMC: Has begun providing the inoculations to patients at UPMC Children's Hospital in Lawrenceville and its UPMC Children's Community Pediatrics practices.
  • Giant Eagle: Parents or guardians are encouraged to frequently search for “Pfizer Pediatric” appointment availability online. Area Giant Eagle Pharmacy locations are expected to make pediatric appointments available throughout the weekend. Additional appointments will be added to Giant Eagle’s online scheduling tool on an ongoing basis, as Giant Eagle Pharmacy locations receive shipments. All Giant Eagle Pharmacy locations will continue to offer appointments for initial doses and booster doses of both Moderna and Pfizer vaccine initial doses and boosters. Flu shots will remain available to patients on a walk-in basis.
  • CVS: Initially offering 5-11 vaccines in 44 locations in Pennsylvania. Check the link for location closest to you.
  • Rite-Aid: Initially offering 5-11 vaccines at four locations in Allegheny County: 230 Hays Ave., Pittsburgh; 2150 Brownsville Road, Pittsburgh; 1222 Brownsville Road, Pittsburgh; 3700 Walnut St., McKeesport.
