Pittsburgh Club Shut Down For Ignoring Coronavirus Order

Find out here what occurred when a complaint against the club was filed.

PITTSBURGH, PA — The Allegheny County Health Department has ordered the closure of the Young Men Republican Club on Pittsburgh's North Side for ignoring current state and county regulations for bars and restaurants intended to stem coronavirus cases.

An inspection found the Suismon Street establishment open and operating, with drinks being served inside the premises. Nine customers were observed drinking, consuming food, and playing pool.

Additionally, the bartender was wearing a mask under his nose. Patrons were consuming beverages while seated at the bar. Tables and chairs spaced less than six feet apart and there was no indication of reduced capacity and restriction of seating.

County bars and restaurants currently can only serve food and beverages outdoors because of a recent and significant increase in coronavirus cases. That two-week order went into effect on July 3.

The club must remain closed for at least seven days.
