PITTSBURGH, PA — How did a two-to-three month-old kitten get trapped in a city storm drain?

Good question. But perhaps a more important query is this: How do you rescue a kitty stuck in such an unenviable situation?

City emergency responders were able to provide the answer Tuesday evening, when 911 received a call from a concerned person reported hearing an animal wailing from the drain in Greenfield.

According to Pittsburgh Public Safety officials, rescue crews donned safety equipment, descended into the drain and used various tools to catch the kitten and bring it to the surface.

It's unclear what happened to the damp feline after its rescue, but it seems apparent that one of its nine lives was exhausted Tuesday.
