Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto Names Councilman New Chief Of Staff

Councilman Dan Gilman is resigning from office to become Peduto's top aide.

PITTSBURGH, PA - Pittsburgh is losing a city council member and Mayor Bill Peduto is gaining a new chief of staff. Peduto on Tuesday appointed East End councilman Dan Gilman to be his top aide effective January 3.

Gilman was Peduto’s chief of staff he was a city councilman and succeeded him when he became mayor in 2013. He represents District 8, which includes Oakland, Point Breeze, Shadyside and Squirrel Hill.

Gilman, 35, of Squirrel Hill, succeeds Kevin Acklin, who is stepping down from the post after four years.

"Dan is the perfect person to continue my and Kevin's work the last four years to make Pittsburgh a city for all. In fact, he's been integral to that work all along," Mayor Peduto said. "I am grateful to Dan and his family for taking this next step in his public service to the city."

Said Gilman: "I have a passion to continue to serve the residents of the City of Pittsburgh. I am thankful to Mayor Peduto for this opportunity to serve the whole city and help deliver upon our City for All agenda."

Gilman was elected to a second term in November. His resignation will trigger a special election that will be scheduled by the city council president.
