PITTSBURGH, PA — Some popular Pittsburgh bands and artists are about to get national exposure via a submarine dressing. Yes, you read that correctly, and no, your Patch correspondent hasn't been drinking.

Pittsburgh-based Conroy Foods, the manufacturer of the popular Beano's Deli Condiments, has teamed with some of the city's best known musicians to share local music with people across the country.

Beanos, which originated as a pizza and sub shop in Blawnox, has slapped a scannable QR code on 2.5 million bottles of Beano's Original Submarine Dressing that leads to a curated playlist featuring local bands such as The Clarks, The Commonhear and Gene the Werewolf.

Jim Conroy, an owner and Coroy Food president, said the idea for the QR Code playlist came to him while attending a Clarks concert in 2022. “Our local musicians are so good, I thought there must be a way to let more people know about them,” he said.

Beano’s is also sponsoring two “Jam and Sam” sessions that will be held at two favorite Pittsburgh establishments to celebrate the condiment’s success and give yinzers a chance to promote even more of their favorite local musicians.

The first music session will be held on Sept. 24 on the stage at Johnny Angel’s Ginchy Stuff & Museum on Preble Avenue in the city's Chateu section. Prior to the event, John and Rachael from the YaJagoff podcast and Steel City Media’s YaJagoff on Q, (Q92.9) will host a social media contest asking for favorite musicians.

The top three vote-getters will receive a slot to perform and enjoy some sammies featuring Beano’s Original Submarine Dressing. The event will be streamed live on YaJagoff Facebook from Johnny Angel’s Ginchy Stuff.

On Oct. 15, the Jags will catch the tunes and stack the sammiches, Pittsburgh style at Mancini’s Bakery. Expect a live performance from a favorite Pittsburgh musician and five lucky winners who will be chosen to take in the jam session. Plus, the winners will learn how the magic happens at the most iconic bakery in Pittsburgh while making a sammich with Beano’s Submarine Dressing.
