Pittsburgh New Year's Day 2019: What's Open, Closed

PITTSBURGH, PA - PITTSBURGH, PA - Here's your guide to various New Year's Day closures in the Pittsburgh area:

  • Schools: Public schools are closed.
  • Government: All city of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, state and federal offices and state and federal courts are closed. County courts, the District Attorney's office and and the Department of Court Records also will be closed Jan. 2.
  • Banks: Closed
  • State liquor stores: Closed.
  • U.S. Postal Service: Post offices will be closed and there will be no mail delivery.
  • Port Authority of Allegheny County: Bus, light-rail and incline service will operate on their respective holiday schedules.
  • Carnegie Libraries of Pittsburgh: Closed.
  • Groceries: Costco, Sam's Club and Aldi are closed on New Year’s Day. Giant Eagle stores close at 9 a.m. on New Year’s Eve and 6 p.m. on Christmas Day. Whole Foods’ South Hills and Wexford locations close at 8 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, while the Shadyside location closes at 9 p.m. All Whole Foods are open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on New Year’s Day. Trader Joe’s closes at 6 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and is closed on New Year’s Day. Walmart and Target (both regular hours) are open on New Year’s Day.
  • Pittsburgh Community Recreation Centers: Closed.
  • Pittsburgh Senior Citizen Centers: Closed.
  • Schenley Park skating rink: Open from 12:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.
