Pittsburgh Pirates Move 4 Players At Trade Deadline

A Pirates roster makeover occurred with Tuesday's Major League Baseball trade deadline.

PITTSBURGH, PA — The Pirates on Tuesday dumped four players as their youth movement continues.

This is what happened:

  • The Pirates acquired left-handed pitcher Bailey Falter from the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for infielder Rodolfo Castro. Falter has parts of three seasons of experience with the Phillies.
  • The Pirates traded pitcher Rich Hill and infielder Ji-Man Choi to the San Diego Padres fro left-handed pitcher Jackson Wolf, outfielder Estaur Suero and infielder-outfielder Alfonso Rivas.
  • Much-reviled catcher Austin Hedges was shipped to the Texas Rangers for international signing bonus money.

The Pirates currently are in fourth place in the National League Central Division with a 48-58 record.
