Pittsburgh Police Seeking Help In Solving Cold Case Homicide

Dennis Winger, 39, was shot to death in a vehicle last year. His killer remains at large.

PITTSBURGH, PA — Police are asking for the public's help for any information regarding the unsolved murder of a father of three in July 2022.

Dennis Winger, 39, was found unresponsive inside a vehicle at the intersection of Vine Street and Fifth Avenue in Crawford-Roberts. Police originally responded to a 911 call from someone believing a man sitting in the driver's side of a vehicle was experiencing an overdose, but when they arrived on the scene they discovered Winger had been shot in the side.

He was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

Winger's family is urging anyone who saw or heard anything that night to please come forward.

"Denny was a father and family man and he loved his three girls. He was a prankster and a joker, but he would also literally give anyone the shirt off his back if they were in need. He was a person and he had value," said his mother, Debbie Winger.

Anyone with information on Winger's death is asked to call city Violent Crime Unit detectives at (412) 323-7800 and ask for Homicide.
