PITTSBURGH, PA —Pittsburgh Public Schools on Tuesday are expected to unveil a preliminary operating plan for the 2020-21 school year as the coronavirus outbreak continues.

District officials have spent weeks forming 15 different committees with hundreds of participants that have offered input into how the district should educate students during the pandemic.

The district already has asked families if they prefer a full-time online option (E-Learning) or prefer to have their child return to a brick and mortar school environment. This information will
inform the type of in-school model the district can offer.

In the in-school model, students will receive a mix of in-school instruction and online learning. The number of days students can be in-school will depend on the number of families that choose the full-time online option.

In the E-learning model, students will receive teacher-led instruction and independent student
work. Students will remain assigned to their neighborhood school or magnet program for the school year.
