Pittsburgh Schools Moving To Remote Learning Due To Heat

PITTSBURGH, PA — Pittsburgh Public Schools will move 35 schools to remote learning this week because of anticipated extreme heat.

The district announced Sunday that students in those building impacted buildings will learn remotely from Tuesday, Sept. 1 through Thursday, Sept. 3.

"Current weather forecasts are calling for temperatures in the 90s, prompting PPS to implement its Extreme Heat Protocol at schools identified as most impacted by the forecasted conditions," a district release stated.

"Under the district’s protocol, when the National Weather Service forecasts outside temperatures to reach or exceed 85 degrees and/or a heat index of 90 degrees or higher, PPS monitors temperatures inside school facilities. When temperatures inside instructional spaces reach 90 degrees or higher, the district evaluates whether a temporary shift to remote learning or other measures are necessary."
