
PITTSBURGH, PA — If you're sitting around bored in September, it's not for a lack of things to do around town.
Before the weather turns wintry and we're all forced back inside for months, here are 10 events that will get you out of the house and are almost certain to entertain you:
- Doobie Brothers, Sept. 4, 7:30 p.m., The Pavilion at Star Lake.
The legendary Doobies were supposed to celebrate their 50th anniversary in 2020, and then...well, you know what happened. Their rescheduled tour marks the first time in a quarter of a century that the band will tour with singer-keyboardist Michael McDonald, the voice behind classic hits such as "What a Fool Believes" and "Minute By Minute." UPDATED: The show was postponed again Wednesday after someone on the tour tested positive for COVID-19. The concert will be rescheduled.

- Lights On!, Sept. 9-11, Pittsburgh Cultural District, Downtown.
After 18 months of pandemic-prompted darkness, the cultural district comes to life again with three days of free presentations and performances at or by the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, August Wilson African American Cultural Center, Pittsburgh Ballet Theater, Pittsburgh CLO, Pittsburgh Opera, Pittsburgh Public Theater and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.
- Brick Fest Live, Sept. 11-12, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Monroeville Convention Center.
If you love LEGOs, the convention center is the place to be. More than a million LEGO bricks will be on display and LEGO fans will be able to meet LEGO Masters reality TV show contestants. There also will be life-sized LEGO figures on display and interactive stage shows.

- Pittsburgh Irish Festival, Sept. 10-12, The Lots at Sandcastle.
At the 30th festival you'll be able to participate in Celtic axe throwing, delight in music and dance performances, shop at the Irish marketplace, quench your thirst with a cultural beverage tasting and, of course, watch the Steelers game on a big-screen TV. The team is owned by a family named Rooney, after all.
- A Fair In The Park, Sept. 10-12, Mellon Park.
The Cratfsmen's Guild of Pittsburgh's signature event typically brings together 100 artists and craftspeople from around the country. Food trucks will be on hand in case you get hungry while perusing all of the clay, fiber, wood, jewelry, glass, leather, metal, mixed media, and two-dimensional art on display.
- Barrel & Flow Fest, Sept. 10-12, SouthSide Works.
The nation's first black beer festival has been renamed and will be held on the South Side this year. Taste the handcrafted beers that will debut at the event, while sampling the wares of food vendors and enjoying live entertainment.
- Dan + Shay, Sept. 17, 7:30 p.m., PPG Paints Arena.
The Grammy-award winning duo, featuring Pittsburgh-area native Dan Smyers, are touring in support of their new album "Good Things."
- Celine Dion, Sept. 24, 7:30 p.m., PPG Paints Arena.
Known for hits such as "My Heart Will Go On," "Because You Loved Me," "If You Asked Me To," and "The Power of Love," Dion hasn't appeared in Pittsburgh since 1998.Dion's powerful voice dominated the pop charts in 1990s and she has sold almost 250 million albums during her 35-year career.
- The Great Race, Sept. 26, Frick Park, (10K race) and Oakland (5K race).
The annual Richard S. Caliguiri City of Pittsburgh Great Race began in 1977 when the former Pittsburgh mayor established the race as a “community fun run.” Since then, more than 250,000 people have participated in the event, making it the largest 10K race in Pennsylvania.
- Pittsburgh Pierogi Festival, Sept. 26, 1 p.m.-6 p.m., Kennywood.
The festival returns to Kennywood and will feature more than 40 vendors offering various different pierogi styles, live music and entertainment, plus the option to ride some of the West Mifflin amusement park's most popular attractions. Kennywood season passes aren't valid for the event.
