PITTSBURGH, PA — Severe storms and a tornado are possible for the Pittsburgh area on Wednesday, forecasters say.

According to the National Weather Service, there is a risk for severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. The main threat will be damaging winds. Large hail and an isolated tornado are also possible.

The Weather Channel agrees with the weather service that damaging winds will be the main threat.

State College-based AccuWeather says the storms that develop in Western Pennsylvania also could cause flash flooding.

Showers and storms are expected to continue tonight and into Thursday morning. None of the forecasters have offered predictions yet on their potential severity.
