Pittsburgh Sports Superstar Suffers Potentially Severe Injury

One of Pittsburgh's sports heroes was injured during an Olympics event on Wednesday.

PITTSBURGH, PA — Penguins captain Sidney Crosby had to leave Canada's Olympic quarterfinal game against Czechia Wednesday after suffering a lower body injury in the second period.

The Penguins superstar did not return to the game and it's unclear if he will be available for the remainder of the tournament. Despite Crosby's injury, Canada rallied to defeat Czechia 4-3 in overtime to reach the Olympic semifinals.

The extent of Crosby's injury is unknown. His right leg buckled as he was hit by Czechia defenseman Radko Gudas and then was crunched into the boards by Gudas and Martin Necas.

Crosby was visibly wincing as he left the ice. ESPN reported he will undergo magnetic imaging to determine the severity of his injury. A prolonged absence from Crosby could jeopardize the Penguins' efforts to gain their first playoff spot since the 2021-22 season.

Crosby has two goals and four assists in three Olympic games thus far.
