Pittsburgh St. Patrick's Day Parade 2020: What You Need To Know

Here's your Patch guide to one of the largest annual events in Pittsburgh.

PITTSBURGH, PA - It's not known as the nation's second-largest St. Patrick's Day Parade for nothing. More than 22,000 participants are expected to march in Pittsburgh's homage to St. Patrick on Saturday.

Here's what you should know about the parade:

  • Downtown road closures will be begin at 7:30 a.m.
  • The parade starts at 10 a.m. and will follow its usual procession, beginning at the intersection of Liberty Avenue and 11th Street to Grant Street to the Boulevard of the Allies. Marchers then will turn right onto the boulevard and proceed to the reviewing stand at Stanwix Street before ending at Commonwealth Place.
  • The parade is expected to attract about 250,000 observers. It will end around 1 p.m.
  • The event will honor former Allegheny County manager Glenn Cannon, a longtime member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians who died in January.
  • This year's grand marshal will be Timothy Finnerty, an Allegheny County assistant solicitor.
  • The parade's Miss Smiling Irish Eyes and her court will consist of Irish queen Stephanie O'Donnell and court members Courtney McGinley and Kelly Bench. O'Donnell, of Irwin, is a freshman at slippery Rock University, where she is studying exercise science and is on an athletic scholarship as a member of the women's volleyball team. McGinley, of Pittsburgh, is a senior at Pittsburgh Allderdice High School; Bench, of McMurray, is a freshman at Penn State.
  • Alcohol is not permitted anywhere along the parade route.
