Pittsburgh Synagogue Massacre: Grief, Kindness On Display

Two days after 11 people were murdered there, people are flocking to the Tree of Life synagogue.

PITTSBURGH, PA - A grandmother and her grandchildren bringing doughnuts to a weary police officer. People leaving flowers at a makeshift memorial with anguished looks on their faces. FBI agents continuing the grim task of investigating the most horrific crime scene in the city’s history.

Those were the scenes Monday at the Tree of Life synagogue in Squirrel Hill, two days after a gunman interrupted services and shot 11 people to death. The accused killer, Robert Bowers, 46, of the city’s Baldwin section was facing formal arraignment Monday on 29 federal charges related to the crime.

What follows are photos taken Monday morning around the synagogue as people in Pittsburgh returned to work and school - but in no way returned to life as usual.
