Pittsburgh To Take Winter's Next Punch: Arctic Air Blast

PITTSBURGH, PA — As Pittsburgh continues to dig out from the heaviest snowfall of the season, winter is preparing to belt southwestern Pennsylvania with a blast of arctic air.

Temperatures will climb into the low 40s on Wednesday before a cold front passes through the area. Highs will be in the mid-20s on Thursday, but the low on Friday morning is expected to be near zero, according to the National Weather Service.

Highs Friday will be only in the upper teens and will drop to an expected low of four on Saturday morning.

No real warmup is on the way. Temperatures aren't expected to be above freezing until at least the end of next week.

Meanwhile, dozens of school district are closed Tuesday as snow removal efforts continue after Sunday's storm.

The region's largest district, the Pittsburgh Public Schools, has a snow day today. There will be no remote or in-person learning and all activities - including grab and go meals - are canceled. Transportation provided by the district also is canceled.
