Pittsburgh Train Derailment: Delays, Cleanup Continue

Progress is being made after Sunday's derailment, but much work remains.

PITTSBURGH, PA - Port Authority of Allegheny County is warning light-rail commuters that significant delays are expected again Tuesday as the cleanup continues from Sunday’s freight train derailment near the Station Square T stop. Light-rail riders should allow for at least an extra 30 minutes, the authority advised in a tweet.

The authority also announced that the Mt. Washington Transit Tunnel and the Smithfield Street Bridge have been reopened to bus traffic only. But buses are unable to serve any stops at Station Square because of safety reasons.

T service has been reactivated through the city’s Allentown neighborhood, so riders don’t need to get off the T and board a bus to complete their commute.
