Pittsburgh Under Heat Advisory, Severe Storms Could Be Arriving

What a wacky summer weather pattern, no?

PITTSBURGH, PA — The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for the Pittsburgh area from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. on Friday.

Additionally, there is a risk of severe storms with damaging winds Friday night into Saturday.

The heat is the initial and most significant risk, as hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses.

The forecast calls for a high temperature Thursday of 90, a high of 94 on Friday and near 90 on Saturday. Temperatures will return to more seasonal levels in the low 80s on Sunday.

The weather service advises drinking plenty of fluids, saying in an air-conditioned room, saying out of the sun and checking up on relatives and neighbors.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.

Heat stroke is an emergency and 911 should be called if it occurs.
