Pittsburgh Weather: 'Thorough Soaking' Over By Mother's Day

PITTSBURGH, PA — Heavy rain moving in this weekend should clear out of the Pittsburgh area in time for Mother's Day, forecasters said.

The deluge, which is expected to arrive on Friday, will impact much of the eastern seaboard, with the band of strongest storms running in a sharp line from Chicago to the Jersey Shore, AccuWeather reports. The Pittsburgh metro could see up to two inches of rain.

AccuWeather senior meteorologist Alex Sosnowski recommends "an umbrella and waterproof shoes" for "a thorough soaking" Friday across much of the Keystone State.

"Clouds, rain and drizzle may linger all day on Saturday in Pittsburgh, New York City, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.," Sosnowski wrote. "Outdoor weddings and graduations will need a backup plan, forecasters say, and a strengthening breeze may cause the rain to blow sideways and could render tents and canopies useless. Enough rain can fall from the storm to lead to small stream and street flooding in some locations."

The storm will bring some chillier than normal temperatures into the region this weekend, forecasters said, with overnight lows dipping into the 40s on Saturday and Sunday.

The National Weather Service calls the front a "slow moving storm system" that "will bring a raw east wind & rain to the region starting on Friday, continuing through Saturday, finally ending on Mother's Day."

On Sunday, the forecast calls for mostly sunny skies with a high of 63.
