Pittsburgh Weekend Guide: Auto Show, Penguins Play And More

There's plenty happening around town this weekend. Check out this listing of cool weekend events.

PITTSBURGH, PA - It’s the weekend car enthusiasts from around the tri-state area have been waiting for. It’s time for the Pittsburgh International Auto Show.

The auto show is famous for showcasing the latest exotic cars from McLaren, Ferrari and Lamborghini. Auto manufactures will be displaying the latest in safety features that will keep tabs on drivers distracted by other digital gadgets.

You can take a seat in a sporty convertible, calculate the cargo space of a new SUV, admire the rugged off-road features of a heavy duty pick-up truck and much more.

Event hours this weekend are Feb. 16 and 17, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Feb 18, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  • Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Toronto Maple Leafs, Feb. 17, 7 p.m., PPG Paints Arena

The Penguins, who have been on a roll lately and have climbed to second place in the NHL’s Metropolitan Division, take on the Maple Leafs, who occupy third place in the Atlantic Division despite the fact that Toronto isn’t anywhere near the Atlantic Coast. Ah, the geographic inconsistencies of professional sports divisions, eh?
Penguins-Maple Leafs tickets start at $114.

  • History Uncorked: Roaring ‘20s, Feb. 16, 7 p.m. Heinz History Center, Strip District

This 20th annual party for young professionals is inspired by the center’s upcoming exhibition, American Spirits: The Rise and Fall of Prohibition, which harkens back to an era of gangsters, flappers and bootleggers. The event will feature a silent auction, an evening of great food from local eateries, drinks from Wigle Whiskey and Penn Brewery and more.
History Uncorked tickets start at $65.

  • Winter Jam 2018 Tour Spectacular, Feb. 16, 7 p.m., PPG Paints Arena, Uptown

Christian music’s largest annual tour will be headlined by Billboard Music Award-winning rockers Skillet. Among those also performing: Grammy-nominated Kari Jobe (featuring Cody Carnes); Grammy-nominated Building 429; comedian John Crist; hip-hop recording artist KB and Grammy-nominated tour creators New Song. A total of 10 acts will perform for approximately 4 hours.
Winter Jam 2018 Tour Spectacular admission is $15.

  • Lunar New Year Celebration, Feb. 18, 2:30 p.m., Ross Park Mall, Ross

In honor of the Pittsburgh's Chinese community, a special Lunar New Year celebration will take place in the mall’s center court. There will be performances by the Pittsburgh Chinese Joy Dance Group, and, of course, a lion dance by The Steel Dragon. While you’re at the mall, stop by Guest Services and pick up a fortune cookie to see what you might expect in the Year of the Dog.
