Pittsburgh Winter Storm Aftermath: School Closings, Snowy Roads
The storm also brought cold temperatures and gusty winds to the Pittsburgh area.
PITTSBURGH, PA — The first significant winter storm of the season dropped several inches of snow in the Pittsburgh metro area Thursday night. The storm's aftermath Friday morning consisted of snow-covered roads, dozens of school closings and delays and the winter's coldest temperatures and wind chills thus far.
PennDOT had speed limits reduced to 45 mph on Thursday on I-70 in Washington and Westmoreland counties and I-79 in Washington and Greene counties, but normal speed limits were restored around 6:30 a.m.
The Pittsburgh Public Schools, the region's largest school district, will have online instruction today.

The National Weather Service reported overnight wind chills of 4 degrees in the Pittsburgh area. Winds will continue to be an issue today, with gusts as high as 25 mph in the region.
Temperatures today will rise only into the mid-20s, but this cold snap will be brief. Expect temperatures in the mid- to upper 30s on Saturday. Sunday will see highs in the low 40s; showers are likely.
