Pittsburgh Winter Storm Warning Issued

The winter storm headed for Pittsburgh will bring snow, freezing rain, sleet and ice to the region.

PITTSBURGH, PA — Western Pennsylvania is now under a winter storm warning. The National Weather Service has issued the warning for Pittsburgh and surrounding counties from 4 a.m. Thursday to 10 a.m. Friday.

Heavy mixed precipitation is anticipated. Total snow and sleet accumulations will be between 1 and 3 inches. Perhaps more dangerously, ice accumulations will be between one-tenth and three-tenths of an inch. Power outages are likely, and tree damage could occur from the ice.

Travel could be rendered difficult to impossible, according to the weather service.

The area will be impacted by a winter storm spreading snow, sleet and freezing rain spreading from the Rockies to the Plains, Midwest and parts of the Northeast through Friday.

When the storm exists, expect a return to significantly colder weather similar to what was experienced last weekend.
