PITTSBURGH, PA — The Penguins most recent successful Stanley Cup run was in 2017. The Steelers last won the Super Bowl in 2009. The Pirates? If you're old enough to recall their last World Series win in 1979, the AARP has a card waiting for you.
So the Pittsburgh Maulers next game should have special significance for Pittsburgh sports fans. They will play the Birmingham Stallions for the USFL championship on Saturday.
The Maulers advanced to the title game with a thrilling 31-27 overtime victory over the Michigan Panthers on Saturday that you probably didn't watch.

The Maulers are coached by former Steelers assistant coach Ray Horton. They advanced to the championship game despite a totally mediocre record this year.
If you want to watch the game in person, it's not a good idea to go to Acrisure Stadium on Saturday. Though the Maulers are a Pittsburgh team, their home games are played in Canton, OH, about a two-hour drive from town.
