PITTSBURGH, PA — Duquesne Light will be unveiling a modernized version of its former Tree of Lights, which was displayed for more than 30 years in Point State Park until the end of the 2021 holiday season.

The new 60-foot tall Three Rivers Tree, which will be on display from Nov. 17 through Jan. 8, has several sustainability features. They include more than 22,000 LED pixels and water ballasts for the tree's foundation to protect the park grounds.

Visually, the new tree will incorporate vibrant colors and images in 15-minute cycles that symbolize the winter and holiday season.

“DLC is beyond delighted to bring a new holiday symbol to Pittsburgh while staying aligned with our vision of a clean energy future for all," Kevin Walker, Duquesne Light president and CEO said in a news release.

Early last year, Duquesne Light began seeking community input on what type of attraction should replace the Tree of Lights. A local Carnegie Mellon University alumnus submitted the winning design concept.

Duquesne Light then took proposals for the tree's engineering and construction. The company ultimately partnered with the Illinois-based Artistic Holiday Designs, a design firm specializing in holiday illumination projects.
