Pittsburgh's Schenley Park Skating Rink Opening Delayed
With winter on the way, the popular skating rink will not open on time this year. Find out why here.
PITTSBURGH, PA — The opening of the Schenley Park skating rink has been delayed until the end of January so workers can install a new chiller system. The anticipated opening day is Jan. 29.
City officials said the old chiller system at the rink was over 35 years old and began having difficulty keeping the ice viable throughout the skating season, particularly on days where lots of sunshine and warmer temps occurred. The chiller installation started in the summer and work will continue up through opening day.
Once opened for the season, the following events will be scheduled for February:

- Disco Night: Feb. 3 adult session, 8 p.m.-9:30 p.m.
- Mascot Skate: Feb. 10 1:30-3 p.m. session, online tickets only.
- Valentines on Ice: Feb. 14, 7 p.m.-9 p.m. Two-for-one admission as a couples special.
- Family Night Skate: Will return on Thursdays, 6:30 p.m.-8 p.m. Once child skates free with each adult paid admission.
