Popular Pittsburgh Bar Closed For 2 Years Reopens

Many of the bar's loyal fans thought the tavern was gone for good. They recently have been proven wrong.

PITTSBURGH, PA — When Piper's Pub filed for bankruptcy, its future was very much in doubt. The popular bar on the South Side closed in May 2o21 during the pandemic and had yet to reopen at the time of the filing.

But Piper's pub is up and running again, albeit on a limited basis.

The menu, for example, "changes with every shift," owner Andrew Topping wrote on the bar's Facebook page.

"I have 10 percent of the kitchen staff we will need. If you want to see a menu grab atable. Menus will be posted online when we get a little more on our feet. For now we don't even have enough hands to answer the phone.

Known for offering a taste of the British Isles on its menu, Piper's Pub has been a staple in the ever-fluctuating Carson Street bar scene since 1999.

Piper's sister location next door, the Pub Chip Shop, remains open.
