Popular Pittsburgh DJ Battling Colon Cancer

He continues to recover after undergoing surgery.

PITTSBURGH, PA - Mike Steele, a popular Pittsburgh DJ on WDVE-FM and 3WS-FM, has been diagnosed with colon cancer.

Steele is recovering from surgery that occurred after he went to the emergency room on April 23. He has been off work since then.

Steele’s bio on his radio web pages say he has been a Steelers fan since birth and has lived in the South Hills for much of his life. He was a weekend DJ at WDVE in the 1990s before spending eight years in Austin, Texas.

Steele started a GoFundMe campaign Thursday to help cover his living costs while he continues his recovery.

"In my employment situation, if I don't work I don't have any income," he said. " My insurance is good to cover medical, but of course not living expenses."

Several local radio personalities have donated, including WDVE morning show host Randy Baumann, 3WS morning show host Jonny Hartwell and 105.9 The X DJ and producer Bob McLaughlin.
