Popular Pittsburgh Restaurant Permanently Closing

A decades-old Downtown Pittsburgh eatery is shutting its doors forever.

PITTSBURGH, PA — After more than three decades, an era ends in Downtown Pittsburgh next week. Sammy's Famous Corned Beef on Liberty Avenue will shut its doors forever on March 25.

The restaurant announced the move via social media.

"We thank the city of Pittsburgh for its patronage over the years and hope you can come in and visit for a sandwich, a beer and some good laughs before we close next week," a post on Sammy's Facebook page stated. "Cheers."

Sammy's has been a staple at various Downtown locations since 1987. In addition to its famous corned beef, the restaurant also is known for its pastrami and beef brisket sandwiches.

There is no word yet on whether another restaurant will take over Sammy's space.
