Popular Pittsburgh TV Weather Forecaster Undergoes Surgery

A veteran Pittsburgh TV meteorologist is off the air while recuperating from recent surgery.

PITTSBURGH, PA — The forecast for WTAE-TV meteorologist Jeff Verszyla for the next few weeks includes a 100 percent chance of rest and recovery following surgery to repair a completely torn hamstring.

In a social media post, Verszyla said the surgery went well and that his leg is immobilized at a 40-degree angle to keep pressure off of the repaired hamstring. The surgery apparently went better than his recovery is going.

"I've gotta say, I've had rotator cuff repair on both shoulders. This is 1000 percent harder," he said. "Standing, sitting, moving from one place to another…all very difficult and very uncomfortable."

The hamstring injury apparently occurred while Verszyla was playing softball.

"Lesson learned here: getting older stinks and I have submitted my retirement papers to the softball league," he said. "Maybe I’ll take up chess, As far as I can tell, no serious injuries have ever occurred moving the knight or rook."
