Potential Threat Closes Pittsburgh-Area School District

It's the same district where more than 20 people were injured in a knife attack four years ago.

PITTSBURGH, PA - A suburban Pittsburgh school district where more than 20 people were injured in a 2014 knife attack canceled classes Friday after a potential threat was made on Snapchat.

A post of someone holding a gun and the caption “It’s almost time,” prompted the Franklin Regional School District cancellation. The post came from a student, Murrysville Police told WTAE-TV. Police are continuing to investigate.

The Snapchat post came a day after one of the deadliest school shootings in the nation’s history. Seventeen students were killed at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL, and the 19-year-old man charged with their murders reportedly confessed to the killings.

The post came nearly four years after a Franklin Regional High School student wounded 20 students and a security guard with kitchen knives he brought from home. Alex Hribal, now 20, pleaded guilty to attempted murder and aggravated assault charges and was sentenced to up to 60 years in prison.
