Punxsutawney Phil, Nick Jr. Live Top Pittsburgh Weekend Events

PITTSBURGH, PA - Before gearing up for his annual one day of weather forecasting on Feb. 2, Punxsutawney Phil is planning a visit to Pittsburgh.

Phil and members of the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club will be at Wigle Whiskey in the Strip District for Phil-A-Palooza on Jan. 17 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wigle is releasing the latest version of Phil's Shadow, a Pennsylvania organic rye whiskey aged in oak and then in regional maple syrup.

Tickets are $12 and include a meet-and-greet with Phil and members of the groundhog club, a sample of Phil's Shadow and a full-sized specialty cocktail.

On Jan. 18, Phil and the groundhog club will be at the Wigle-affiliated Threadbare Cider & Mead on the North Side to celebrate the release of Threadbare's annual Phil's Burrow Cider Bottles, a rum raisin inspired cider. A portion of the Phil's cider bottle sales will go to the groundhog club.

It begins with a single snare drum, then a flute. Gradually, each instrument of the Pittsburgh Symphony joins in. One after the other, until Ravel’s “Bolero” reaches one of the greatest climaxes in all of classical music. Also, Seong-Jin Cho, the first prize winner of the International Chopin Competition, will play Liszt’s blistering Second Piano Concerto.
