Rat's Nest Found In Popular East End Restaurant

A consumer alert has been issued for the eatery.

PITTSBURGH, PA - The Allegheny County Health Department has issued a consumer alert for Sun Penang restaurant on Forbes Avenue in Squirrel Hill after a rat net was located on storage shelves near a stand mixer and water heater.

Inspectors also found a recently deceased juvenile rat on the floor near the water heater. Additionally, recent droppings and gnawed bags of corn starch were observed, as were older rat droppings on carpeted stairs leading from the dining room to an upstairs restroom.

Inspectors noted that there is no evidence any pest control company is treating the eatery.

Other violations included the unsafe cooling of prepared food; food held at unsafe temperatures and soiled food-contact surfaces and food equipment throughout; Inspectors found the dish machine was not sanitizing and noted a lack of facilities to properly clean and sanitize and a lack of proper handwashing facilities.
