Rite Aid Data Breach: What You Need To Know

More than two million Rite Aid customers had their personal information exposed via a recent hacking. Get the details here.

PENNSYLVANIA — About 2.2 million Rite Aid customers had their personal information exposed in a June data breach, the pharmacy chain announced this week.

The data leaked includes includes customer names, addresses, driver’s license numbers, and dates of birth. No social security number, financial information or patient information was accessed in the breach, according to the Philadelphia-based company.

"We regret that this incident occurred and are implementing additional security measures to prevent potentially similar attacks in the future," a Rite Aid release stated. "We take our obligation to safeguard personal information very seriously and are alerting affected consumers about this incident."

The data obtained was from purchases made between June 6, 2017 and July 30, 2018.

According to Rite Aid, an unknown third party impersonated a company employee on June 6 to
compromise their business credentials and gain access to certain business systems. The incident was detected within 12 hours and Rite Aid immediately terminated the unauthorized access.

Rite Aid has notified law enforcement officials about the hack. Customers will receive a letter informing them about the breach and can call (866) 810-8094 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. if they have additional questions. The line will be in operation through Oct. 15.

Rite Aid has 352 Pennsylvania locations, according to the chain's website.
