ScareHouse Returns With Pittsburgh's First Halloween Hangout

PITTSBURGH, PA — There will be a frightening amount of haunted experiences to have at the Halloween Hangout opening Saturday at The Plaza at North Shore and running through the end of the month.

Halloween Hangout is the creation of the folks behind the nationally recognized ScareHouse, which has been ranked as one of “America’s Scariest Halloween Attractions” by the Travel Channel. It's also been featured on Good Morning America, The Daily Show, Travel Channel, CBS and ABC News, Buzzfeed, Forbes, Mental Floss and many other national media outlets.

Halloween Hangout will feature haunted experiences, events, movies, themed food and drinks from Sugarbird restaurant the plaza, family-friendly trick-or-treat and haunted happy hours.

“This month-long celebration is not a traditional haunted attraction but something new and unlike anything ever seen in Pittsburgh,” said Scott Simmons, ScareHouse Creative Director.

How so? For starters, a haunted ship featuring vamp-pirates and wicked mermaids will dock at the plaza. That's something you don't see every day.

The Halloween Hangout will be activated seven days a week during The Plaza and SugarBird’s business hours. Guests can enjoy haunted specials and festive lunches, happy hours, and dinners among the haunted shipwreck. Character appearances and amped up experiences will happen during the Saturday Halloween Hangouts.

Free movie nights will begin Oct. 8 with "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." On Oct. 15, prepare for "Hocus Pocus" and "Hocus Pocus 2." The double feature on Oct. 22 will be "Practical Magic" and "The Craft." The Oct. 29 film will be a people's choice selection that will be decided by a social media vote.

A ticketed event will occur on Devil's Night, Oct. 30, and feature fire and freak show performers and a tarot card reader.

Another ticketed event on Halloween will have themed food and drinks, live entertainment, immersive photo moments and outrageous characters. The Plaza will be awarding prizes for the night’s best costumes, get onboard with the theme or get creative and dress to kill.
