Security Boosted At Pittsburgh-Area HS After Two Loaded Guns Found

HEMPFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA — Police will be patrolling and metal detectors will be in use at Hempfield Area High School after two loaded guns were found on the school's campus Monday.

Three Hempfield students are under investigation in connection with the incident. No charges have been filed. Area High Students are under investigation after two loaded guns were found on the school's campus Monday.

State police were called to the scene after students reported seeing other students exchanging the weapons. Witnesses told police that one of the students brought two guns to school and then gave them to two different students - one exchange occurred on the school bus, the other in a school restroom.

The guns were found in the students' backpacks by school resource officers.

The three students involved in the exchanges all are 15, police said.

Hempfield is located about 30 miles east of Pittsburgh in Westmoreland County.
