Seneca Valley Music Education Program Nationally Lauded

The district has been honored by the National Association of Music Merchants Foundation.

CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, PA - Seneca Valley School District has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from The National Association of Music Merchants Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education.

Now in its 21st year, the Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts demonstrating outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students. To qualify for the designation, Seneca Valley answered detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music programs. Responses were verified with school officials and reviewed by The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas.

“Music education is valuable for all students and at Seneca Valley we have a rich tradition of musical excellence in our programs,” Seneca Valley Music Teacher and Academy of Choice Performing Arts Coordinator Varden Armstrong said in a district release. “Music is essential to public education at all grade levels and provides opportunities for our students to collaborate, express themselves and explore how music relates to cultural and historical events.”

This award recognizes that Seneca Valley is leading the way with learning opportunities as outlined in the Every Student Succeeds Act. The act recommends music and the arts as important elements of a well-rounded education for all children.
