Seneca Valley Wins Academic Decathlon

The smart students took home 25 medals in the competition.

CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, PA - Seneca Valley High School’s academic decathlon team placed first among eighteen schools, and brought home a total of 25 medals recently in the Academic Decathlon Competition at Clarion-Limestone High School.

SV medalists included freshman Kate Lipscomb who medaled in the category of art; and sophomores Nick Folino who medaled in essay and interview and Abigail Roeckmann and Christina Yang in art.

Junior students who medaled included Megan Neely in art; Julia Allman who won an overall bronze and medaled in interview and speech; Logan Glatz won an overall gold and medaled in music and art; and Nishant Jayachandran who won an overall bronze.

Seniors who were medalists included Katie Bablak in art and literature; Ashley Conroy in interview; Jessie Glatz in interview and speech; Mark Hemmerlin in music and speech; Katie Parker in essay, art and literature; and Ryan Lipscomb in essay, music, art, literature and speech.

The students competed in six events: art, music, literature, interview, speech and essay.

The SV Academic Decathlon Team includes Julia Allman, Katie Parker, Gabe Sutherland, Logan Glatz, Nick Folino, Mark Hemmerlin, Megan Spark, Abigail Roeckmann, Steven Yang, Kate Lipscomb, Ryan Lipscomb, Nishant Jayachandran, Megan Neely, Christina Yang, Jessie Glatz, Katie Bablak, Ashley Conroy and Mia Chevallier.

The next competition will be held at Northwestern High School on Nov. 3.
